CFS2 Mission - FvB_Redux_19 "Ridin' Herd Over Bremen." CFS1 mission converted for use in CFS2. Escort a bomb run by B24 Liberators attacking industrial centers in Bremen. Make sure you keep those Luftwaffe pilots away from the bombers!

Greetings Simmers,

This is another in the long-running Redux series of CFS1 stock converted missions I seem to have devoted my life to. This one is one of the "bonus" missions that can still be found on the Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 1 site, and was not included with the original game. There are two viewpoints to this one and the other is available as well (fvb_redux_18). This one is from the viewpoint of the escort planes that are protecting the bombers targeting Bremen. Your duty is to keep those Messerschmitt's away from the bombers and make sure they make it home safely.

Install: Drop mission (.mis) and dynamic (.dyn) files into your CFS2/mission folder. Thats it, if you have all the needed files required, it should work fine. If not, check in your root CFS2 folder and look for the file "error.log" and open it with notepad. It will tell you exactly what the problem is. Usually it is an airplane folder spelled differently or something else minor along those lines.

Copy the sound files spitwin and spitlose from your CFS2/sound folder to your CFS2/sound/action folder so they can be heard in the mission. If they are already there, then you can skip this step.

WARNING: I would strongly suggest you not run this mission through the mission builder, as much hand editing was done that the mission builder will overwrite and you'll likely end up with a mess. You'd have to know how to hand edit the dynamic file to be able to access some parts of it anyway, as several multiple and/or triggers have been added.

NOTES: I've decided to use the donationware P-51B in this mission as I just purchased it during the donation drive at Sim-Outhouse and would like to get a bit of use out of it. You can of course always substitute whichever plane you like, but results will of course vary in your frame rates and/or the abilities of the AI to handle the plane, which could affect takeoff and landing as well as the way the planes engage in combat. You'll need to change the plane in the unit type section toward the bottom of the mission file. Just use notepad or whichever text editor you prefer. All you need to do is change the name= line to the folder name of the plane you desire to change it to. Make sure you spell the folder name correctly.

This mission was designed to be played at 95-100% settings in warp mode. I cannot guarantee it will play as it should if you should choose to fly it in real time, but it should be ok. Again, no promises though.
